INFANT FEEDING

Breast is best, right?! No, fed is best?! Still wrong! Informed and supported is best

When it comes to feeding their baby, I imagine most people have an idea and may think ‘I’ll try breastfeeding but fed is best, so I’ll do what’s right for my baby’, without realising that there is a lot of emotions that come along with feeding their baby, however that is, and how it isn’t as simple as that. 90% of parents who stop breastfeeding do so before they want to. 60% of those because of pain. Support is absolutely vital for feeding your baby and you should be given the support to reach your own feeding goals.

I know you’re probably thinking that ‘breastfeeding is natural, it’ll just happen’ and I wish it was that simple. I’ve been where you were when I had my first baby, and it was tough without support.

You should be supported to reach your own feeding goals, regardless of what they are. You’ve probably been surrounded by people telling you ‘but fed is best’ and you feel that must be true. Of course its important to feed your baby, but what about how you feel about feeding? What about what’s important to you? When those who are struggling with breastfeed get qualified and specialist support, it can entirely change their mental wellbeing and how their parenting journey is. Support is essential when it comes to feeding your baby.

After struggling with my sons breastfeeding and seeing no improvement despite the endless advice from healthcare professionals, a short conversation with Bea gave me all the answers and support I needed to begin feeling hopeful that my breastfeeding journey is about to improve! I cannot recommend Bea enough! Forever grateful for her wisdom!

The most common reason for people stopping breastfeeding because they wanted to are due to pain and you shouldn’t be going through alone this and without support. Pain in breastfeeding isn’t normal and indicates that something isn’t quite right. You should not just suffer in pain, thinking it’s normal and something you have to push past and can be resolved.

Did you know..?

But if you’re having problems, you just go to the GP, or your midwife or your health visitor right?

As much as it pains me to say, breastfeeding isn’t something that is given much thought when it comes to training and sometimes, it’s luck of the draw on if you get someone who has perhaps done additional training. They also don’t have much time to support you properly, as the NHS is ever crumbling, and they have so much they have to do in a short space of time.

Breastfeeding Support Melton

I’ve been dedicated to supporting families on their own feeding journeys for 6 years. It is something I’m so incredibly passionate about and have regularly volunteered my time for local breastfeeding support groups and other platforms. I want to be able to give families my undivided attention in preparing to breastfeed and support postnatally. I see first hand families and parents who are in floods of tears because they haven’t been getting the right support and it’s very difficult to get out of the house to go to a group, and no one to talk to. I am there for you night and day, prepared to work with you 1:1 to form a strong connection and relationship, building trust between one another. I’m your rock, your soundboard, your support.

Bottle Feeding Melton

My beliefs for infant feeding are ‘informed and supported is best’ and not ‘fed is best’ or ‘breast is best’. I will support you and your choices that are right for your family.

Bea is so knowledgeable and approachable. I first met Bea at a breastfeeding cafe a few years ago as she gave me advice and support as one of the breastfeeding peer supporters. She was so quick to get back to me, she knew so much and I felt that she really cared. She values individual choices and will empower women to become informed about their pregnancy, birth and feeding options. I can't recommend her highly enough.
